For the last few months we’ve been working on an app called Fluent Medic. It’s a concise history taking app for patients who do not speak English. The patient chooses their language and symptoms on the app from pre-programmed questions.
It summarizes the history at the end for the GP in English and gives examination instructions or a course of action – e.g. ‘I have to send you to A&E for further tests’ in the patient’s own language.
The app is currently in development and we are looking at which languages GPs are having most difficulty with in their own practice, as well as which practices would be suitable for trialing the app once finished.
